Oakleigh Central’s new technology gives vision-impaired greater independence

Following the successful trial of innovative BindiMaps technology from November 2020-February 2021, the indoor wayfinding system is now available at Oakleigh Central on a permanent basis.

BindiMaps is an Australia-developed wayfinding app that helps vision-impaired customers navigate with independence and confidence, allowing them to shop in their own time and at their own pace.

Developed with input from Vision Australia, the Royal Society for the Blind and Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, BindiMaps technology helps people safely navigate shopping centres by guiding them to their destination using a combination of text, voice and maps.

Oakleigh Central is the first of Vicinity’s portfolio to introduce the technology, allowing even more customers to enjoy our wide range of fresh food retailers.

To find out more about BindiMaps, you can visit their website bindimaps.com or search for them on the Apple app store or Google Play.
