There’s nothing fishy going on at Bluefin Fresh Seafood at Oakleigh Central. The firmness of the flesh and the brightness of the eyes all offer honest testimony to the state of what’s on sale.
Owner Ming Guan Jin has worked in the seafood industry for nearly 30 years and in the wholesale fish markets for 20 years. He’s no fishmonger-out-of-water. “This is why I am able to maintain the quality and freshness in the produce that gets delivered daily,” he says.
Ming opened Bluefin in 2005, choosing Oakleigh Central because “It’s a community of seafood lovers!” His shoppers appreciate his huge fresh range and specialist knowledge. He has an ever-growing fleet of regular customers.
Blue Fin sells premium quality fresh (and frozen) seafood, and offers complimentary cleaning and filleting of fish.
Min Gaun says being a fishmonger is hard work that begins every day at 3am at the wholesale fish market. “Then I’m back to the shop to stock up and open for trade at 7am.”
So what keeps him afloat? “The support we receive from Oakleigh Central, as well as the community of locals who continue to shop at our store,” he says.
With its legendary brain-enhancing, health giving properties, Ming loves eating fresh seafood as much as the locals. When he catches a break, Ming’s go-to is Mythos Gyros Bar in Oakleigh’ famous Greek dining precinct and the Fresh Fruit Market.
